This blog is a companion to the website Web Writer Central, which features free resources for web-based freelance writers.
When you have any dream in life, you need to pursue it. Too many times I’ve seen talented people get shaken from a single setback or procrastinate to the point that their dream fades on them. It’s one of the saddest tragedies out there in the world today, and writers are no exception to it.
I was almost one of those writers who quit before I had even started. Loving to write from childhood, I gradually let the red ink of a few English teachers wear down my confidence. As a young adult, I doubted myself to the point I felt awkward even sharing my writing. By the time I got out of college, I had basically stopped writing for fun.
I ended up pursuing various other career ideas involving psychology, business, finance, and broadcasting. I don’t regret that because I learned a lot about people and about life, but in the background my heart and soul yearned to be writing. Though I found an amount of success in the eyes of other people, it didn’t feel like success to me.
How I got my dream back came from an unexpected source that I thank God for putting across my path—a website called Writing.com. The community of that site made writing fun again and gave me a foundation to build an online writing career. It’s the reason I’m now writing this blog and can pursue my dream without sacrificing our family’s finances.
I’ve written this blog with the idea in mind that you want to get off the ground as soon as possible. I’ve tried to design it as if I was a guide looking over your shoulder. I’ll tell you what’s worth pursing and what will get you hurt.
This blog contains detailed information regarding:
1) Legitimate websites that will pay you to write for them, as well as ways you can maximize you profits from each.
2) Common scams to avoid and why you should still read the fine print of even several legitimate writing websites.
3) Free websites that will help you with editing, marketing, and polishing your work.
4) Tips in handling the business side of writing.
5) How to increase your income significantly over time just by how you publish.
6) Books and resource recommendations that will help you develop your career.
If you ever have any questions, you can even e-mail me personally. My husband and I are also in the process of creating a website where I can give you more up-to-date information as I discover it. Again, you can contact me for details or request to be placed on a list to notify you as soon as the site is up and running. It is my hope that this book will help you develop your dream or help you reclaim a dream you thought you had lost. I wish you the very best and hope you find success beyond your imagination!
Take care,
Tricia
